Fonias Tower

On the north coast of Samothrace, there is Fonias River. The mevieval Tower of Fonias is built at the estuary of the river. Contrary to the fortification of the Gattilusi in Paleopolis, Fonias Tower (which obviously belongs to the same defense program and must have been built after 1431), is not included in a broader fortification.

As in the southeast tower of Paleopolis, this tower also consists of three floors. The entrance to the tower is located on the first floor on the northern side (seaward) and there are battlements on the second floor.

The archaeological site is located along the east and west bank of the river and dates back to the Archaic - Byzantine period. You can still see the remains if you visit the area.
