Information

Samothrace has been described as "a mountain in the middle of the sea". Indeed Saos Mountain (highest peak: 1.600 m.), occupies almost the entire surface of the island. On the mountain there are gorges, waterfalls and “vathres”, as the locals call the natural pools that exist here, while the southern part of the island has many secluded beaches and coastal or sea caves. Samothrace has been inhabited since ancient times and it became known as the sacred place of the Cabeiri mysteries and worship of the Great Gods. The island's capital is Pyrgos, the picturesque mountainous village with its medieval castle and traditional taverns.

How to get there:

  • By ship from the port of Alexandroupolis to the port of Kamariotissa. The trip lasts approximately 2.5 hours.
